One of the most popular Aglaonema ever. Silver Queen has been a workhorse indoors for decades. It adapts to a wide variety of indoor environments. Its greenish silver markings on the dark green foliage can be enjoyed in indoor ground covers and stand alone specimens. Silver Queen will flatten out in lower lighting and can withstand very dry conditions. The only drawback to this Aglaonema is the spotting of the leaves when exposed to low temperatures.
The temperature requirements for Silver Queen is a comfortable 75 degrees and the water requirements are low. Aglaonema are one of the plants used in the NASA Clean Air Study and has shown to help remove Formaldehyde.
It does best in a wide shallow pot filled with coarse soil and does not mind being pot-bound. Older plants may shed lower leaves. Can tolerate a great deal of shade as well as diffused sunlight. Prefers a warm atmosphere - between 16 - 20 degrees Celsius. Moderate humidity.
The leaves may be sponged every two to three weeks with room-temperature water. Do not use leaf shiners. Liquid exuded from the leaf tips can spot wood finishes. Water generously during the growing period, using tepid water. Keep somewhat drier in winter. Feed every two weeks with mild liquid fertilizer. Mist frequently. |
